The registry's own record over RDAP, the structured successor of WHOIS: registrar, dates, status, nameservers. Where a registry offers no RDAP yet (.lu, .be, .eu and .de among them), you get the DNS facts and a link to the registry's own lookup.
What this checks
RDAP returns registration data as JSON over HTTPS instead of the free-text WHOIS. Registries publish their RDAP server in IANA's bootstrap file; this tool reads that file and asks the registry directly, never a third-party aggregator. What a registry shows varies: gTLDs give registrar, dates and status; some ccTLDs give less and several (.lu, .be, .eu, .de, .io) have no RDAP at all yet. Holder names and addresses are generally redacted since the GDPR.
