DNS records for NovaNode Mail
The MX, SPF, DKIM, DMARC and autodiscover records a domain needs for NovaNode Mail, where the Mail panel shows them, and how to tell when they are in place.
Mail arrives, and leaves without landing in spam, only when the domain's DNS records are in place. The Mail panel shows the exact records for your domain and checks them for you.
Where to find them
Open the Mail panel (client area → the Mail product → Open mail panel) and scroll to DNS records. Each record has a Copy button and a status: In place when the panel can see it in public DNS, Not found when it cannot. The count of missing records is also shown at the top of the panel.
Keep everything the domain already has and add these.
The table below shows the shape of each record so you know what you are looking at. The values for your domain, in particular the SPF, DKIM and DMARC text, are the ones in your Mail panel. Copy them from there, not from this page.
The records
| Type | Name | What it looks like | Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|
| MX | @ | 10 mail02-lux01.mikenetworks.com | Where mail for the domain is delivered |
| TXT | @ | v=spf1 mx ip4:… -all, exact value in the panel | Which servers may send as this domain (SPF) |
| TXT | v1-ed25519-<date>._domainkey | the signature key shown in the panel | Signs outgoing mail (DKIM) |
| TXT | _dmarc | v=DMARC1; p=…, exact value in the panel | Tells receivers what to do with mail that fails SPF and DKIM |
| SRV | _autodiscover._tcp | 0 443 mail02-lux01.mikenetworks.com | Outlook finds the server by itself |
| CNAME | autoconfig | mail02-lux01.mikenetworks.com | Thunderbird and others find the server by themselves |
The DKIM name contains the date the key was generated, so it looks different for every domain. Always take the name and the value from the panel.
If the domain is registered at NovaNode
Domains registered through NovaNode use our nameservers and the wizard writes the records for you; you can see them in the DNS editor in the client area.
If the domain is elsewhere
Add the records at the DNS provider of the domain. After saving, come back to the Mail panel; the status flips to In place once the record is visible, which can take a little while depending on the TTL at your provider.
